Blue Cloud HOuse

for children’s choir

2022

5’

commissioned by the Ryedale Festival

words by children from Gillamoor Primary School, Pickering Junior School and St. Joseph’s Primary School; arr. Emma Harding

part of Seven Mercies (complete)

Then squishy chimpanzees

danced to yellow jazz

with groovy gerbils

by a glittering sea.

Lemon meringue

Twirled in a purple ballet

And a sausage dog on a trapeze!

Blue cloud house…

In the blue cloud house…

And then you smiled

And then you made me breakfast

And then you helped me up

Took my hand

Shared your time with me

Such a small thing

But the world was changed for a while…

Everything’s going to be all right.

Blue cloud house

This morning was a blue cloud house

Everything felt wrong.

Everything felt blue…

But then you smiled

And then you made me breakfast

And then you helped me up

Took my hand

Shared your time with me

Such a small thing

But the world was changed for a while…

And then the blue cloud house

sprouted fuzzy rainbows

and the cat on the chair

became a pink kangaroo

And in the turquoise sky

there were flashes of furry lightning,

my jumper was suddenly vibing

to a sweet melody.

And then you smiled

like a sweet invitation

to a sunny paradise

where beautiful bears

put on gold ball-gowns

and the Queen Butterfly

rode in on her wilder-beast!
